Sarah is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson.

Sarah has a brother named Mark.

Mark is the father of Emma and Jake.

Sarah has a sister named Lisa.

Lisa is married to John.

John is the uncle of Emma and Jake.

Mr. Anderson is the brother of Mrs. Smith.

Mrs. Smith is the mother of Emily.

Emily is the cousin of Emma and Jake.

Take a moment to look at this family tree and understand the relationships between family members, including aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Possessives: 's and Possessive Pronouns

Possessives are used to show ownership or belonging. We use 's to indicate possession:

"Sarah is my mother."

"Sarah is Jack's mom."

In these sentences, we're using 's to show that Sarah belongs to Jack as his mother.

We can also use possessive pronouns like "my," "your," "his," "her," "its," "our," and "their" to indicate possession:

"My book."

"Your pen"

"His car."

Possessive pronouns replace nouns to show ownership. For example, instead of saying "Sarah's car," we can say "her car" using the possessive pronoun.

Practice Time

Now, it's time to practice what we've learned. Try these exercises:

1- Write a sentence using 's to show possession.

2- Rewrite the sentence using a possessive pronoun.

3- Describe a family member's relationship using 's. For example, "This is Sarah's brother."
